Analysis of the current situation of the casting industry

The production scale and variety of castings in China's casting industry are already at the forefront of the world. A strong industrial foundation provides a large number of castings (blanks and parts) for many industries.

Since the reform and opening up, China has started to import and export castings. In recent years, China's export of castings has grown rapidly, accounting for over 10% of the total production of castings. Foreign exchange earnings have steadily increased, and export products have also progressed from simple castings to complex castings with higher requirements. Although China's foundry industry has entered the ranks of world leading foundry countries with multiple factories, large production capacity, and complete categories, there is still a considerable gap compared to other casting powers such as the United States, Japan, Germany, and France. China's casting production must follow a sustainable development path of high quality, efficiency, low consumption, and cleanliness in order to quickly grow from large to strong.

For a long time, there has been a phenomenon of high scrap rate in China's casting industry. The scrap rate of ordinary cast iron parts in China is about 7%, complex and high-end parts are about 10% to 15%, and aluminum alloy die-casting parts are about 8% to 10%. The defects mainly focus on the pores, sand holes, etc. that appear on the surface or inside of the casting. About 80% of the defects can be remedied through repair. There are many reasons for defects. In the process of process arrangement, material selection, casting mold design and production, pouring molding, etc., if not scientifically and rigorously designed and executed, it will lead to the emergence and increase of scrap rate.

With the adjustment of national policies, China's casting industry has shifted from low value-added products to mid to high-end castings. The repair efficiency of castings has been increasingly valued by enterprises. Each enterprise often adopts different methods in rescuing defective castings due to their own situation.
